You have several choices when you decide that you need to determine if your foundation may have problems.

You can call foundation repair companies, many of which will provide you with free estimates.  There are many reputable companies that will evaluate your foundation and provide you with a plan of repair.  The evaluation should include a Relative Elevation Survey and observations.  The estimator should also make sure you understand your options and explain the plan of repair to your satisfaction.  Ask all the questions you want.  You will probably receive varying estimates in type of repairs to be made, number of supports and cost.

Your other choice is to hire a licensed architect or professional engineer.  There will a charge, but the report will be independent.  Foundation Inspectors charges $350 and up depending on the size of the house and foundation type (slab or pier and beam).   Visit  What is in included with an inspection for an example report and drawings that Foundation Inspectors includes with our inspections.
